NEW GAMES WILL BE DEVELOPED IN 48 SLEEPLESS HOURS
Digital game sector’s most important game development organization Global Game Jam’s (GGJ) Izmir leg, GGJ Aegean, brings software developers, designers, and members of computer world together at Izmir University of Economics (IUE). Two hundred participants will develop games within 48 hours at this year’s event, which had been hosted by IUE since 2012. Expert software developers will also provide support.
The event, organized by IUE Game Development Team led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Gazihan Alankuş, Head of IUE Department of Mechatronics Engineering and Head of Event Committee for 2018 GGJ Aegean, will take place at IUE Conference Hall on January 26 – 28, concurrently worldwide.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Gazihan Alankuş reported that participants would divide into teams, and fight against time, insomnia in order to develop computer games in 48 hours. He said that the event welcomed all interested students, academicians, amateurs and professionals. Asst. Prof. Dr. Alankuş said, “Participants sleep very little during 48 hours, and develop computer games. This year we will be organizing the 7th game jam event where game sector will gain new games. Participants will act as teams. While participants meet each other, they will have a chance to establish professional relations.”
International Game Developers Association (IGDA) initiated the Global Game Jam in 2009, and Izmir University of Economics was hosting GGJ Aegean since 2012, stated Alankuş. He said that more than 36 thousand participants in 700 centers in 95 countries developed more than 7 thousand computer games last year. “Game developing sector in our country is still in its infancy stage. However, the event is very significant in terms of software developers, computer engineers, designers, and students meeting each other, and developing projects together. Participants get a chance to socialize through this event. Izmir University of Economics offers ‘Computer Games Development’ undergraduate education. We are training professionals for this sector. Our graduates are employed by many game companies in our country,” said Asst. Prof. Dr. Gazihan Alankuş.
