AWARD WINNING SOLUTIONS BY IUE STUDENTS
Buse Bircan, Berk Arık, and Beril Bayer, Students from Department of Industrial Engineering, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), came in first place at the Product Supply Challenge case analysis competition held by Procter & Gamble (P&G). Students, who competed as Busy B’s titled team, outcompeted third and fourth year undergraduate students, and graduate students nationwide, and achieved a phenomenal success.
The team Busy B’s chose the brand name Fairy to analyze at the competition held by P&G, a manufacturer of many brands such as Alo, Ariel, İpana, Oral-B, Pantene, Head & Shoulders, and Gillette. The team completed the first stage on the internet by case solution; they were invited to P&G’s factory located in Gebze for the second stage of the competition where 45 teams were selected nationwide. Competitors attended additional case studies at the factory for one day, and got a chance to get to know the factory up close. The final stage of the competition involved students’ presentations of solution proposals.
Bircan, Arık, and Bayer’s team, Busy B’s, competed against students from METU, Bilkent University, Sabancı University, and Yıldız Technical University. The team came in first place and qualified to visit the largest manufacturing site for Fairy located in England.
