‘TRANSLATION’ SUCCESS OF IUE STUDENT
Entrepreneurial students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), where the medium of instruction is English, proved their success in translation and interpretation area. Ezgi Yağmur Kırlangıç, senior from IUE Department of Translation and Interpretation, came in second place at the Young Translators Competition held by the Ministry of EU Affairs. Kırlangıç qualified to visit the EU institutions located in Brussels.
IUE translators came in first place and second place for two consecutive years previously at the competition, which aims to raise awareness regarding translation studies that play an important role during Turkey’s European Union accession. Kılıç reported that 140 students from 38 universities attended the competition held in three languages this year (106 in English, 19 in German, and 15 in French). Kırlangıç said, “This year we were asked to translate the declaration on child labor from English to Turkish. I believe this will contribute greatly both to my academic career and to my future employment. We receive an excellent education at IUE. Our academicians help us with everything; I am very happy to be working with them. Previous championships in this competition were also from my university, so I wanted to keep up the Izmir Economics tradition”.
