MUSICAL FOR A YOUNG AUDIENCE
Kindergarteners enter the enchanted world of theater with “The Little Black Fish”, a children’s musical where the students of Child Development Program, Vocational School of Health Services, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), feature in. The musical, prepared as part of the IUE Children and Music course, aims to reach to almost one thousand kindergarteners in Izmir.
Children both learn about theater and have fun with the costumes, setting, and dances of the musical prepared by Ezgi Oral, Lecturer at Child Development Program, Vocational School of Health Services, Izmir University of Economics, and students.
Ezgi Oral reported that 14 students from the program, who are about to graduate, took part in the musical, and both the setting and the costumes were prepared by the students. Oral said, “Ages 0-6 is a very critical age period in human life. This is a period when the children need to be supported the most in terms of their social, emotional, lingual, physical, and cognitive development. Children, who lack enough stimulants during this period in which the brain develops rapidly, may never be able to reach their full potentials. Kindergarteners learn through games. Playing is the best method of learning. This year’s play is adaptation of Samad Behrangi’s Little Black Fish. This story recounts the challenges, adventures, dangers, and beauty that she experiences on her journey across the sea.”
Oral stated that the students’ theater group plan to visit schools until the end of May and meet with almost one thousand children.
