HIGH SCHOOLERS DESIGN OUR FUTURE WITH ROBOTS
High school students ranking the highest at the “Energy-Efficient, Environment-Friendly Robot" competition, held by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Engineering, received their awards. Students showcased their various designs such as minesweeping and waste separating robots, robots that give commands via brain waves or mow grass. They received their awards from IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Can Muğan, IUE Faculty of Engineering Dean Prof. Dr. Yaşar Güneri Şahin, and Vice Dean Dr. Görkem Uçtuğ.
Students who placed in the top will receive 100%, 50% and 25% tuition fee scholarship if they register to the programs within the Faculty of Engineering. Ayberk Ergüç, a graduate of Karşıyaka Zeki Sairoğlu Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, was awarded a 100% tuition fee scholarship for his robotic design built for cleaning solar panels. Onur Cihangir Acar, a graduate of Afyon Yavuzoğlu High School, received a 50% tuition fee scholarship for his robotic design of a smart hut for animals. Bartu Özel, a graduate of Bornova Anatolian High School and Baran Turan, a Karataş Anatolian High School graduate each received a 25% tuition fee scholarship for their designs of personal robotic carrier and robot for separating waste according to materials, respectively.
“Our future depends on the youth”
IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Can Muğan stated that robotic technologies are the future of Turkey and added, “[w]e have a strong engineering and technological infrastructure. We have held an energy-efficient, environment-friendly Robotics competition to draw the attention of future engineers to mechanic, electronic and software fields. Students displayed their many different and valuable designs. Young people are our future. With our 11 different engineering departments, we would like to prepare our youth in the best way possible for the future”.
