GERMAN THEATERS ENTRUST IUE FOR THEIR DESIGNS
Designers of Izmir University of Economics are designing the costumes and stage designs of theater plays in Germany. Jörn Fröhlich, Lecturer, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design, and Cansu İncesu, graduate from the same department, reflect the marks of Turkish designers in German theaters with their costume and stage designs.
Following the premiere of Alice in Wonderland by the German theater group ‘Theater Spiellust’ in Michelstadt, Fröhlich and İncesu are now preparing the costume and stage designs of the plays Cabaret, and Ubu the King. Designs of IUE designers are coming to life on German stages.
Lecturer Jörn Fröhlich stated that the German actors visited Turkey couple of times and were deeply impressed by the work in Turkey. Fröhlich said that they created costume and stage designs for 4 plays. “Turkey’s international success in design improves with education. International products come out. The quality of textile products also draws attention. We initially worked on all design details for the play “Grimm and Gretel “of the German Brothers Grimm. We just completed Alice in Wonderland. We are now working on the costume and stage designs of Cabaret, a play that revolves around the 1920’s nightlife, and the play, Ubu the King, a grotesque farce about the monstrous Ubu. Plays will premiere in February 2019,” said Fröhlich.
