JOB CLUB TRAINING FOR STUDENTS OF IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Students will get ready for job interviews professionally. A protocol has been signed between Mahmut Özgener, President of Board of Trustees, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) and Makbule Dank, Acting Provincial Director of Turkish Employment Agency (ISKUR), Izmir in order to carry out ISKUR’s “İş Kulübü, Bu Kulüpte İş Var (Job Club)” event at IUE Vocational School.
The protocol allows IUE Vocational School students to receive theoretical and practical training on job seeking and job placement processes from job and career advisors of ISKUR in 2018 – 2019 academic year.
Alongside President Özgener and Dank, IUE General Coordinator Prof. Dr. Murat Borovalı, IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Can Muğan, Emre Kızılgüneşler, Vice Chairman of Izmir Chamber of Commerce (IZTO) and Member of IUE Board of Trustees, Cüneyt Güleç, Member of IUE Board of Trustees, Burçin Önder, Director of IUE Vocational School, Yunus Yorgancı, Director of ISKUR Bornova Service Center, Supervisor Şükran Öztürk, Supervisor Taner Kaya, Job and Career Advisors Sevgi Tunalı Kabaçlı, Erkay Özdemir, and Harun Yılmaz, and academicians attended the protocol ceremony.
In his speech, President Mahmut Özgener said, “I strongly believe both parties will benefit from this project a great deal. We will be engaged in very useful projects for our city with the dynamism of the University and ISKUR’s strong efforts. We welcome all kinds of ideas and arguments”.
‘95% Success’
Acting Provincial Director Makbule Dank stated that they brought a new dimension to the project they started last year as part of the National Employment Mobilization. “Izmir has been chosen as a pilot city and Izmir Job Club provided training for 574 people in 78 training groups during the January-September 2018 period. The reports show that trainees gained confidence in finding employment, developed their job search skills and performed better at job interviews. 95% of the trainees proved to be successful as a result of these trainings,” said Dank.
Dank, who stated that they would continue to help students benefit from their services with the protocol signed with Izmir University of Economics, stated the following:
“Izmir University of Economics is a strategic partner in terms of continuing our services for youth and reaching out to more youth for that purpose. Thanks to this protocol, Izmir Job Club will reach out to more students and help them with job search procedures.”
“Their job search skills will improve”
Izmir Job Club trainers of ISKUR will train the second year IUE Vocational School students on improvement of job search skills, personality inventory, preparing CV, dressing for job interviews, body language, and interview techniques. There will also be mock interviews to practice job interviews based on specific professions. Students will be awarded certificates at the end of 1-week trainings.
