INNOVATIVE AND STUDENT-CENTERED VOCATIONAL SCHOOL
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Vocational School (VS) welcomed the new academic year. Coordinatorships within the IUE Vocational School have been introduced and information on projects such as “Çıraklar Ustalara Soruyor (Apprentices Asking Masters)”, “Graduate Success Stories, “MYO Prodüksiyon(VS Production)”, which will be carried out through the year, has been shared with the audience at the ceremony held at IUE Conference Hall.
IUE General Coordinator Prof. Dr. Murat Borovalı, IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Can Muğan, Selami Özpoyraz, President of Izmir Chamber of Commerce Council Members of IUE Board of Trustees, academicians, and students attended the ceremony.
Burçin Önder, Director of IUE Vocational School, reported that there were one thousand vocational schools in Turkey and almost 3 million students were being educated in these schools currently. Önder said, “Vocational schools are institutions, which train high level implementer professionals. What makes IUE Vocational School different from the others is that it is vastly supported by Izmir Chamber of Commerce and Izmir University of Economics. We are the best. We use the most advanced technology. Students are trained and educated by specialized trainers. We train the workforce demanded by the modern world. We are innovative and always student-centered”. Önder, who indicated that they acted on the principle of ‘Shape your dreams’ stated that they prepared the students for real life.
Buğra Kaan Günay, President of IUE Student Council, pointed that vocational school students were entrepreneurial and venturesome, and participating in student clubs and student councils would make students gain great benefits.
IUE VS Lecturers Halil Pak, Emre Küheylan, Serkan Özmen, Oylum Güleryüz, Serkan Bolat, Seda Cengiz, Mustafa Baydağ, Kenan Demirel, Özde Şenol, İdil Somalı, Semra Keleş, and Faculty Member Filiz Mergen gave information about ‘Communication and Design”, “Business and Management”, “Architecture and Structure”, “Travelling and Language”, “Technique and Technology” programs coordinatorships, events, and programs.
Lecturer Taylan Demirkaya delivered, “How Does Entrepreneurial Mind Make You Succeed?” titled presentation at the ceremony also. Demirkaya, who pointed that there were five stages to choose a good career and profession, said, “Take responsibilities, take action, fail, learn, and improve. One needs to focus on these basic concepts. An individual needs to take responsibility foremost. Needs to take action based on ‘I need to do this’ comprehension. First step may not always bring success, but you should never give up. Learn your lesson, and improve your steps, and try again.”
The event ended with the opening of the exhibition of projects of 70 students studying at Furniture and Decoration, Interior Design, and, Architectural Restoration Programs under the Architecture and Structure Coordinatorship.
