Next generation of display technology
Asst. Prof. Özge Sağlam, Lecturer, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Izmir University of Economics, will be researching the next generation display technology. Sağlam’s TUBITAK funded project will manufacture capacitors for more efficient and durable smart phone and television screens and wearable technologies.
Display technologies, which became very essential in our daily lives, and which are being improved constantly for their more efficient and durable versions, became a research topic at Izmir University of Economics (IUE). Asst. Prof. Özge Sağlam, Lecturer at IUE Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, will manufacture high durability, stretchable “2 dimensional” panels less than 30 nanometer thick within the scope of TUBITAK 1001 project fund she qualified for. Asst. Prof. Sağlam gave information about her project, “We started to use technology in our daily lives more and more. Therefore, we expect some of these products to be more durable, efficient, and user-friendly. Display technology is one of them. Today, smart phones, wearable technologies, next generation of televisions consist of enhanced components. We use Nano technology also.” Asst. Prof. Sağlam said, “We aim to manufacture two dimensional, stretchable capacitors with stronger and high quality pixels that are no more than a few atoms in thickness. These will also have low energy consumption. In this project that I am coordinating, I will be working with colleagues from Koç University, Izmir Institute of Technology, and Pamukkale University. Our TUBITAK funded research will last for 3 years.”
