IUE physics lab gets an upgrade
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Physics Laboratory has been upgraded to allow conducting more comprehensive experiments, which are vital in the education of physical sciences. IUE Rector, Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar said, “Basic sciences underlie applied sciences such as engineering. Being able to experience the theoretical knowledge increases students’ performances in their fields.”
The Physics Lab of IUE Department of Physics, Faculty of Arts and Science, which went through upgrade, is now ready to serve students. The lab, where experiments on mechanics and electromagnetics take place, will be used in the training of all physical and engineering sciences that are based on basic physics education. Rector, Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar pointed that theoretical studies about physical sciences should always be supported via experiments. The Rector said, “The more you do experiments, the better the theoretical knowledge sinks in. When you get different results from experiments, you try to rethink the models and try to perfect the study. Each experiment directs you to a new research. It is true for applied sciences as well as for basic sciences. It is very important to understand the basic sciences in engineering sciences.” Prof. Dr. Aşkar indicated that IUE physics, chemistry, and biology labs have been updated to meet the needs of the modern world, and they affected learning processes positively. Prof. Dr. Aşkar said, “Labs are a must in the accreditation of engineering sciences and physical sciences education. We only expanded our existing labs with new experiment sets and improved the physical conditions for students who are going to study there. This way, we will allow more extensive studies to take place.”
