Izmir University of Economics receives 2019 Science Award
Assoc. Prof. Karpat, Faculty Member from Department of Physics, Faculty of Arts and Science, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), has been deemed worthy of the Science Academy’s Young Scientist Awards Program (BAGEP) Award. Assoc. Prof. Göktuğ Karpat has been one of the 43 academics to receive this award nationwide.
BAGEP was initiated by the Science Academy to choose and reward the best young academics and to support them in conducting new studies. With this award, Assoc. Prof. Karpat’ research will be supported for a period of two years. Assoc. Prof. Karpat, who has been awarded the “Distinguished Young Scientist Award (GEBIP), 2018” of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TUBA) in the field of physics before, will conduct studies to put quantum computers into practice.
Assoc. Prof. Karpat gave information about BAGEP awards where he said, “The Science Academy is encouraging the youth to engage in good science, and rewarding the best examples. BAGEP awards are given in order to choose and reward the best young academics and to support them in conducting new studies. Science Academy runs this program not with government funding, but with the support of the society. This year, the Jury decided to support 43 academics over 310 applications. I am very happy to bring in this award to Izmir University of Economics. Quantum computers will help solve problems quickly and I will be conducting theoretical studies on putting quantum computers into practice.”
