IUE’s sailing achievement
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Sailing Club ranked in first place in IRC-2 class, Support-3 and Support-4 classes separately and came in second place in IRC-1class at the 10th Jimmy Key – Universail Sailing Yacht Racing event held by Urla Yacht Club (URIYAT).
IUE Sailing Club members competed in different categories in yacht sailing against 49 sailing boats from Bodrum, Çeşme, Karaburun, Çeşmealtı, Foça, Çandarlı, Teos, and Urla. Asst. Porf. Güzden Varinlioğlu, Consultant to the IUE Sailing Club, and Lecturer from IUE faculty of Fine Arts and Design, said, “The 14-member team of IUE Sailing Club carries out activities under the captaincy of Seher Arı and presidency of Deniz Ofoğlu. Other members of the club are Umur Doğuş Onat, Begümnur Küçükcan, Melis Aydın, Ata Güngör, Yılmaz Atay, Burak Taha Bilgi, Esra Melike Ersoy, Yağmur Ercan, Zeynep Uyanık, Erk Türkel, and Begüm Çula. In this yacht racing event, our team came in first place in IRC-2 class with the sailing boat named “Fagotta”, came in first place in Support-3 class with the sailing boat named “Gia”, came in first place in Support-4 class with the sailing boat named’ “Yalıçapkını”, and came in second place in IRC-1 class with the sailing boat named “Müge”. Our team gains an experience on yacht racing discipline.”
