Qualified personnel for tourism
A collaboration protocol has been signed between Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Vocational School Tourism and Hotel Management Program and Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TURSAB). Based on the protocol, students will have priority in performing their internship at travel agencies and work after they graduate.
IUE Rector, Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar, Tolga Gencer, President of TURSAB Aegean Region, Kıvanç Meriç, Committee Chair of Izmir Chamber of Commerce Tourism, Travel Agencies, and Car Rental Group, and IZTO Council Member, Burçin Önder, Director of IUE Vocational School, Lecturer Edit Habif, IUE Vocational School Travel and Languages Programs Coordinator, and students of Tourism and Hotel Management Program attended the signing ceremony that took place at IUE Board of Trustees Hall.
In his speech, IUE Rector, Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar stated that with the protocol they aimed to establish a bridge between the sector and the university. The Rector said, “We hope to meet the employment need of travel agencies with qualified and well-educated graduates. Our students will make a difference in practice with high quality education they receive. This collaboration will continue to increase with future projects we plan in order to develop the tourism potential of our city.”
Tolga Gencer, President of TURSAB Aegean Region, stated that they were open to new ideas, and university and sector acting together would be very beneficial. Gencer said that there was a need for qualified personnel in tourism area, and this collaboration would help fulfill that need.
