IUE logısticians get full mark for their projects from the business world
Students of Department of Logistics Management, Faculty of Business, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) are developing projects for university-industry collaboration, and coming up with solution recommendations for logistic concerns of companies.
Students designed applicable solution recommendations, under the guidance of company representatives and academic advisors, for real life problems such as planning, operation, warehousing, marketing, production, and transportation as part of the “11th University - Industry Collaboration” event.
Students got full marks from the companies for the presentations of their projects supervised by Assoc. Prof. Özgür Özpeynirci, Assoc. Prof. Muhittin Hakan Demir, Assoc. Prof. Bengü Sevil Oflaç, Assoc. Prof. Işık Özge Yumurtacı Hüseyinoğlu, Asst. Prof. Qing Lu, and Asst. Prof. Aysu Göçer. Among the audience of the presentations was Yasemin Usta Seçkin from IKEA Turkey Logistics Directorate, Selim Kayacan from SAP Turkey Supply Chain Products Department, Şiyar Laçin from IBM Turkey Hybrid Cloud Sales Department, and Deniz Kantar from Borusan Logistics IT Solution Management. After the assessment of the projects, the “Development of Distribution Planning in Automotive Sector: The Case of Norm Holding” titled project came in first place. The project was co-coordinated by Norm Holding and students Sinem Birol, Beliz Erten, Öykü Özdemir, Elçin Özek, Selin Şenyuva, and Harun Can Turgut, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Işık Özge Yumurtacı Hüseyinoğlu and Assoc. Prof. Bengü Sevil Oflaç. Students designed solution recommendations for lowering the transportation costs, convenient carrying methods, and increasing customer satisfaction.
The “Creating an Innovative Culture” titled project came in second place. The project was co-coordinated by Havi Logistics and students Defne Züher Bellikli, Ezgi Candemir, Aymila Doğdu, Fatih Karaca, M. Mert Ketenci, and Azime Nur Özen, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Bengü Sevil Oflaç. The “Redesign of Warehouse Layout Plan and Improving Inventory Management” titled project of students Ceren Duman, Mertay Gürel, Mert Karal, Büşra Özkan, Senem Özsoy, and Buse Yalçın, under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Qing Lu, came in third place.
The "Digitalization in Logistics" titled conference was held as part of the event. Assoc. Prof. Muhittin Demir, Head of IUE Department of Logistics Management, delivered the opening speech of the panel moderated by founding faculty member of the Department of Logistics Management, Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu. Yasemin Usta Seçkin from IKEA Turkey, Selim Kayacan from SAP Turkey, Şiyar Laçin from IBM Turkey, and Deniz Kantar from Borusan Logistics attended the event as guest speakers.
