Music hackathon at Izmir University of Economics
Music and technology will come together at Izmir University of Economics (IUE). 40 students from Portugal, Latvia, Romania, and Turkey will develop new entrepreneurial ideas about music at an event hosted by IUE. Students will participate in a 48-hour “Music Hackathon” based on art for development theme, and focus on a specific subject. The event, which also aims for youth to get to know different cultures, will end on July 9.
Assoc. Prof. Tarık Saygılı, Lecturer at Faculty of Business, and Acting Director of Health, Culture, and Sports, said, “The fact that this project taking place at our university is very important for our students in terms of their socio-cultural development.”
Assoc. Prof. Saygılı stated that the project started with the acceptance of Originn Youth Group’s application to Erasmus Plus. Saygılı said that the outcomes of the project would be submitted to the Turkish Development Agency. Assoc. Prof. Saygılı, who stated that the technical training to students were provided by Asst. Prof. Oğuz Yetkin from Ege University, said, “As part of the project, students received training on making sounds via Arduino system and computer. On the last two days of the project, students will spend sleepless 48 hours to develop a project regarding music. This experience will contribute greatly to our students. The fact that this project, taking place at our university, is very important for our students in terms of their socio-cultural development. Such projects are important because they teach about team work and introduce different cultures.”
