Special event to observe July 15 The Democracy and National Unity Day
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) prepared a special event as part of the third anniversary of the July 15 coup attempt in order to draw attention to the importance of national values and democracy. “Democracy; The Past, Present, and Future”, and “Ataturk and the Democracy” titled panels will be held as part of the observance of July 15 the Democracy and National Unity Day.
The event will take place on Friday, July 12 at 11.00 at IUE Conference Hall. Following the commemoration of the martyrs, Buğra Kaan Günay, President of IUE Student Council, will deliver an opening speech. After that, Asst. Prof. Elçin Yılmaz, Head of the Common Compulsory Courses Department will deliver a speech titled, “Ataturk and the Democracy”, and Asst. Prof. Ünsal Doğan Başkır will deliver, “Democracy; Its Past, Present, and Future” titled speech where important historical information will be shared with the audience.
“Strengthening our awareness on democracy”
IUE Rector Prof. Murat Aşkar stated that the event, prepared in collaboration with the academicians, would be held in a panel format. Prof. Aşkar, who pointed out the importance of the event where IUE alumni will be attending as well, said, “This event will further strengthen our national unity and solidarity, and awareness on democracy.”
