Next generation of graduate education by Izmir University of Economics
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) brought four graduate schools under one roof in order to allow its students to take courses they want from other programs, and improve themselves in different areas when they are pursuing masters or doctoral degrees. While, it is being practiced for the first time among the universities in the Aegean region, Graduate School of Health Sciences, Graduate School of Business, Graduate School of Social Sciences, and Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences have been merged under the “School of Graduate Studies”. This new structuring will allow students to have a more personalized education opportunity.
“It will provide many advantages to students”
Prof. Mehmet Efe Biresselioğlu, Director of IUE School of Graduate Studies, pointed out the fact that they were the first university to combine graduate schools in the Aegean Region, which brought many advantages to students. Prof. Biresselioğlu said, “By taking a significant step in accordance with the new goals of the University, we expanded the interdisciplinary education model further more. Thanks to this merging of the graduate schools, students will be able to take courses from other masters and doctoral programs in addition to their chosen program. For example, a master’s student in business program will be able to take courses from different programs and self-improve in the area of digital transformation. This way, we will be able to put customized education model into practice.”
“We will concentrate on case-focused, project-based, and blended learning”
Prof. Biresselioğlu stated that they took new steps in accordance with the new areas of profession and needs, by following the necessities of the era. “In this new education model, we will place importance on case-focused, project-based, and blended learning. If we think that worldwide competition increases as we speak, students developing in different areas simultaneously, will make a difference in the business world instantly,” said Prof. Biresselioğlu, and stated that the informative meeting of the School of Graduate Studies would take place on Wednesday, July 31 at 18.30 at Izmir Chamber of Commerce.
