A scientific glance at refugee health
Refugee health will be addressed at an international level. The agreement signed between Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Medicine and Italian Universita Campus Bio-Medico, will address the refugee health in both Turkey and Italy where intensive immigration movement takes place.
Prof. Murat Aşkar, IUE Rector, Prof. Hakan Abacıoğlu, Dean of IUE Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Massimo Ciccozzi and Prof. Silvia Angeletti from Universita Campus Bio-Medico, and Valerio Giorgio, Consul General of Italy in Izmir, attended the ceremony that took place at IUE Board of Trustees Meeting Hall. The agreement was co-signed by IUE Rector Prof. Aşkar and Prof. Massimo Ciccozzi, on behalf of Prof. Raffaele Calabro, the Rector of Universita Campus Bio-Medico.
The agreement, in addition to conducting research in the field of health, includes academic exchanges, designing of training courses on health management, development of a joint virtual library, and sharing of information and documents. Asst. Prof. Ayşe Banu Demir from IUE Faculty of Medicine will be traveling to Rome in October as part of the joint studies with Universita Campus Bio-Medico.
IUE Rector Prof. Murat Aşkar stated that the leading structure of the University emerged in all areas. The Rector said, “Our University comes to the fore again with this agreement revealing its leading role in science. Our Faculty of Medicine conducts both social and academic research in the field of health. This agreement signed with Italy will allow us to develop joint scientific projects. There will be academic exchanges for teaching purposes. We will design and develop a joint virtual library. Refugees are an important issue for both countries. We will be addressing the health problems experienced by the refugees, and prepare a detailed report on it.”
