An exemplary collaboration between Izmir University of Economics and Euro Gıda
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) signed a collaboration agreement with Euro Gıda, one of the largest and most trusted brands of food industry in Kemalpaşa, Izmir, in order to provide academic support to students receiving graduate education at IUE and allow them to engage with the business world. The protocol signed between IUE Rector Prof. Murat Aşkar and Financial Affairs Director Murat Voysal of Euro Gıda will allow students to use laboratories and all equipment of Euro Gıda as they are performing their academic studies such as graduation projects, thesis, and researches. Additionally, Euro Gıda will provide employment opportunities to two graduates of IUE Faculty of Engineering throughout their graduate studies. Every year, at least 3 undergraduate or graduate students will be able to perform internship at Euro Gıda for a period of one month. As the protocol went into effect, Tuğçe Ersan and Hazal Gül, who graduated from IUE this year, started to work at Euro Gıda already.
“This agreement is very important for us”
Rector Prof. Murat Aşkar, who delivered a speech at the signing ceremony that took place at IUE Board of Trustees Hall, said that the collaboration was very important for students. “The reason behind initiating Campus Izmir, the first model of university-city integration in Turkey, was to turn entire Izmir into a campus for our students and provide them with the most convenient platform to self-develop. In line with these objectives, we place importance on all kinds of agreements that would broaden the horizon of students and guide them. The agreement with Euro Gıda, operating in food industry, is also very important to us. We are going to take steps to consolidate this collaboration. Our students will contribute significantly to the industry with their creative ideas and projects,” said Prof. Dr. Aşkar.
“Coordination will be provided for joint projects”
Prof. K. Nazan Turhan, Head of IUE Department of Food Engineering, gave information about the scope of the agreement. She stated that an agreement within this scope was signed for the first time. Prof. Dr. Turhan said, “The purpose of this protocol is to develop collaboration between the University and Euro Gıda in terms of education, training, and research. This protocol will allow our students to benefit from facilities of Euro Gıda and all the opportunities they need. Furthermore, an effective coordination will be provided to conduct joint researches and development projects. We are going to decide with Euro Gıda about the thesis subject of our students, who started to work there already. This way, academic studies will find a direct outlet for application in the sector.”
