Quality education is the foundation of health
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Vocational School of Health Services held the “Assessment of Educational Programs in Vocational Schools of Health Services within National and International Context” themed 6th Vocational Schools of Health Services Workshop at IUE Conference Hall. 90 academics from 48 universities attended the workshop that was co-organized with the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Health Services Education Programs (SAHIDAD).
In her opening speech, Prof. Çiğdem Kentmen, Vice Rector of Izmir University of Economics, stated that health services were one of the most important indicators of socio–economic development level of nations. Prof. Kentmen said, “The primary aim of health sector is to provide good quality, accessible, and low-cost services. The quality and quantity of healthcare personnel, in growing population and increasing number of hospitals, city hospitals in particular, is an important agenda topic. Therefore, development of educational programs by Vocational Schools of Health Services that match the sustainable development goals, is the best investment for future. As the quality of education increases, the professional knowledge and competencies of healthcare personnel such as leadership, initiative, decision-making, and learning to learn skills will improve.”
Prof. Kentmen reported that the standardization of educational programs was addressed in the previous meetings of the workshop, and this meeting addressed the assessment of educational programs within national and international context.
