Workshop by Chinese artists
Chinese Artist Ali Lei Gong, who is one of the most significant representatives of painting and calligraphy art worldwide, and his son Chuanyi Lei, met with students at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) for two days. Lei Gong, who lives in Beijing, China and involved in this art for almost 60 years, shared the niceties of painting and calligraphy art with the students. Lei Gong, who held many exhibitions all around the world up until now, attracted great attention of the students with the designs and shows he performed with his painter son, Chuanyi Lei. IUE students watched the Chinese artists very carefully, who created unique artwork for decorative purposes by using different writing systems. Students, who got acquainted with the art of calligraphy, got credit for their artwork. As part of the workshop, Chuanyi Lei delivered a detailed presentation on Chinese culture of painting and art, and shared his unique artwork on cats with the students.
“HAPPY AND EXCITED”
The 66 year-old Ali Lei Gong, who actively pursues his life as an artist in China, indicated that working with students made him very happy. Lei Gong said, “I have been involved with the art of painting and calligraphy since I was 6 years old. I can say that I dedicated my life to art. It makes me happy and excited to share what I learned with others, to relay it to new generations. This is my second time in Izmir. It really is a beautiful city. The time I spent at Izmir University of Economics has been very productive. I was quite happy with the interest of students. I would like to come to Izmir again for different projects. I have a very active art life in China. I reflect the values of Chinese culture on my artwork. I will continue to meet with art enthusiasts by opening new exhibitions at different parts of the world.”
“HELPS STUDENT IMPROVEMENT”
Yuan Peng, Lecturer at IUE School of Foreign Languages, and Chinese Language Coordinator, stated they would continue to hold events that contribute to the development of students. Peng said that the Father, Ali Lei Gong and his son Chuanyi Lei came to Izmir upon the invitation by the Chinese Culture Center at Izmir University of Economics. “We care about organizing events which would attract the attention of our students and help them improve in different areas. While organizing such events, we take the demands of our students into consideration. Our events will continue throughout the year, we will be inviting important people as guests. We want to make sure our students gain experience about different cultures,” said Yuan Peng.
