Students of Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) baked cookies for sick children to inspire hope for them. Student chefs baked and sold colorful macarons to support children being treated at hematology and oncology wards. The money collected will be used for the treatment of children.
Student volunteers, who take “Pastry” course taught by Trainer Chef Melike Konday, Lecturer at IUE Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, baked their traditional New Year’s cookies under the “One Cookie, One Hope” slogan, and sold them for the benefit of sick children. Supporting an association or an organization each year, IUE students displayed their talents for the children at Children’s Hematology and Oncology Ward at 9 Eylul University this year.
‘TURNS INTO SOCIAL PROJECT’
Trainer Chef Konday said, "We turn our pastry course into a social project every year. In this traditional project, our students volunteer to help an association they pick. We carry out this social aid project every year around New Year. This year, we baked macarons based on our ‘One cookie one hope’ slogan. Our students sold them at the booth. All the proceeds from the bake sale will be donated for the treatment of sick children. We did a minor contribution to help those children look forward to a new year with hope.”
